The contest to provide Chevron with a floating liquefied natural gas vessel for its huge Leviathan field offshore Israel is about to be spiced up by a new player joining the battle.
Leviathan, which holds more than 22 trillion cubic feet of gas resources, is a key supplier of natural gas to Israel, Egypt and Jordan. The gas is currently piped to these markets from the field’s deep-water location.
However, significant resources at Leviathan remain untapped, so Chevron — which acquired former operator Noble Energy last year — continues to assess new monetisation options, with FLNG solutions being pitted against exports via new pipelines.
