Private equity backed operator Neptune Energy has made an application for a UK North Sea carbon dioxide storage licence to underpin a proposed CO2 transport and storage scheme on the east coast of England, according to documents seen by Upstream.

Neptune submitted its application to the Oil & Gas Authority (OGA) regulator on Friday 7 May, Upstream understands.

It covers several blocks in the southern North Sea located to the south and south-west of the company’s producing Cygnus gas field.
