India’s Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has launched a chase for two deep-water drillships required for its east coast operations, as it aims to secure additional offshore rig capacity amid record-high oil prices.

Several people familiar with the development told Upstream that state-owned ONGC recently issued tenders for two dynamically positioned deep-water drillships capable of operating in water depths up to 1500 and 3000 metres, respectively.

ONGC has lined up key exploration and development campaigns in the east coast region and it requires specialised floaters to drill multiple deep-water wells, one person said.
