Indonesian national oil company Pertamina is in the frame to acquire Shell’s stake in the Inpex-operated proposed Abadi 9.5 million tonnes per annum liquefied natural gas mega-project in the country’s remote eastern area.

“Yes, that is the plan. It is not yet [a done deal], we are still evaluating — but yes,” a Pertamina official told Upstream on the sidelines of Gastech 2022.

UK supermajor Shell, which is Inpex’s sole partner, has been trying to line up a buyer or buyers for its 35% minority interest in Abadi that is intended to exploit the 10 trillion cubic feet-plus of recoverable reserves on the Masela offshore production sharing contract.
