Petrobras has unveiled plans to spud a pair of exploration wells in the Para-Maranhao basin, as the Brazilian oil giant targets a return to the country’s northern equatorial margin after more than a decade with no activity in the area.

Drilling in the environmentally sensitive region is set to resume later this year when Petrobras is scheduled to spud the Morpho wildcat in Block FZA-M-59 in the Foz do Amazonas basin.

Seven more exploration wells are envisioned for Foz do Amazonas from November 2023 to September 2025.
