Brazilian giant Petrobras has qualified Chinese offshore contractor Offshore Oil Engineering Company (COOEC) as an engineering, procurement and construction contractor, a status that allows the company to bid for its EPC contracts, particularly for floating production, storage and offloading vessels.

COOEC officials said the company is the first Chinese offshore contractor to be granted full EPC contracting status by Petrobras to provide “stationary production units”, on par with international floater heavyweights such as SBM Offshore of the Netherlands and Italy’s Saipem and the big South Korean and Singapore shipyards.
