Petrobras plans to charter a pair of rigs to carry out development drilling at a cluster of giant pre-salt deep-water fields in the prolific Santos basin offshore Brazil.

The move to secure more units under long-term contracts takes place as Petrobras is conducting a separate tender to charter as many as eight rigs, with the Brazilian state-controlled company seeking to replenish its fleet as the market heats up and dayrates are on the rise.

Industry sources told Upstream that Petrobras invited contractors to submit commercial bids on 17 June for the supply of up to two rigs to work at Block BM-S-11, which hosts the Tupi, Berbigao and Sururu fields.
