Spanish energy company Repsol will soon begin the process of securing engineering, procurement and construction contractors for the initial development phase of the large Kali Berau Dalam (KBD) onshore gas discovery in Sumatra, Indonesia.

Kali Berau Dalam is in the Sakakemang licence area, and is labelled by Repsol as being the largest gas discovery in Indonesia in 18 years, with a preliminary estimate of its recoverable resources of at least 2 trillion cubic feet of gas.

An appraisal well — KBD-3X — was in progress at the time Repsol reported its financial results in February 2021.
