Santos wants to change the development plan for the Barossa field offshore northern Australia, involving an extra 100-kilometre section of large-diameter subsea pipeline.

This Darwin Pipeline Duplication (DPD) Project applies just to the offshore gas export pipeline component of the US$3.6 billion project.

It will be a significant add-on, incurring extra capital cost but providing Santos and its partners with a carbon capture solution for the field.

The original plan was for gas from Barossa to be transported via a 260-kilometre 26-inch pipeline to a tie-in point on the existing Bayu/Undan field.
