Up to five leading international contracting players or groups are competing for a key contract involving further expansion of Saudi Aramco’s giant Safaniyah and Abu Safah offshore fields.

The contractors eyeing the most recent offshore offering from the Saudi state-owned company are part of Aramco’s coveted long-term agreement (LTA) grouping, which competes for all of the country’s offshore brownfield and maintenance contracts.

Saudi Arabia is expanding its oil production capacity to 13 million barrels per day and LTA contracts are crucial to its strategy of maintaining output from its multiple ageing offshore oilfields.
