European energy contracting giants Technip Energies and Saipem are poised to pull out of their engineering, procurement and construction roles in the Novatek-led Arctic LNG 2 project in West Siberia under the pressure of tightened European Union sanctions against Russia.

Once the departure is confirmed, the three-train 19.8 million tonnes per annum Arctic LNG 2 project could face setbacks and challenges that have raised expectations that project leader Novatek may reduce the nameplate capacity, threatening liquefied natural gas supplies to committed offtaker countries, including China.
