Anglo-Dutch supermajor Shell has issued invitations to bid for the key platform contract for its Rosmari-Marjoram sour gas field development offshore Sarawak, East Malaysia.

The nation’s two leading offshore fabricators — Sapura Energy and Malaysia Marine & Heavy Engineering (MMHE) — have both received the tender invites for the 8000-tonne wellhead platform, while Sarawak-based Brooke Dockyard Engineering & Works Corporation and OceanMight could also be in the fray, according to contracting sources.

Sapura and MMHE could have the edge given their experience of building larger platforms, according to some project watchers, although the Sarawak duo have the impact of local content on what one Kuala Lumpur-based contracting source described as a possible "political agenda.”
