Thailand is preparing to launch its first licensing round in 15 years, which the country’s Department of Mineral Fuels (DMF) hopes will lead to an exploration renaissance not least as the nation sees gas as a continuing to be a significant pillar of its energy mix.

Three blocks in the Gulf of Thailand — designated G1/65, G2/65 and G3/65 — will be up for grabs, Witsarut Thungsuntonkhun, director of the DMF’s international petroleum management division under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy, told Upstream at OTC Asia.
