Exploration on the Norwegian continental shelf is set to remain high over the coming years, with dozens of wildcats seen this year alone, according to industry authorities in the country.

“We expect about 40 exploration wells in Norway in 2021. A clear majority of these are wildcats, but we can’t be exact about the share between wildcats and appraisal wells,” Kalmar Ildstad, director for licence management at the Norwegian Petroleum Director (NPD), told Upstream.
