State-owned Sonangol is days away from spudding the first onshore exploration well drilled in Angola’s Kwanza basin for decades, targeting a sizeable prospect.
Angola’s onshore discoveries, fields and basins have been neglected for many, many years, partly because overseas oil companies lost interest amid a flurry of bigger shallow water oil discoveries in the 1970s and a later flowering of deepwater exploration in the mid-1990s triggered by Elf’s (now TotalEnergies’) huge Girassol field.
