Norwegian independent Vaar Energi has made another exploration discovery in the Barents Sea offshore northern Norway to follow up on its recent Lupa field discovery.
In a brief statement, Vaar — which is majority owned by the Italian energy major Eni - said it had discovered oil in the Countach well in Block PL 229 near its Goliat oilfield north-west of Hammerfest.
The well — also dubbed 7122/8-1S — has been drilled to a depth of 2958 metres with oil discovered in the Realgrunnen and Kobbe formations.
