The US Bureau of Offshore Energy Management’s 2021 National Assessment of Undiscovered Oil and Gas Resources on the Outer Continental Shelf shows a significant decline from the most recent estimates from five years ago.

In a statement, BOEM said that the undiscovered technically recoverable resources on the Outer Continental Shelf stands at 68.79 billion barrels of oil and 229.03 Tcf of natural gas. In 2016, the agency estimated a mean UTRR of 90.55 billion barrels of oil and 327.58 Tcf of gas.
