BP is aiming to resume its delayed exploration programme on the Shallow Water Absheron Peninsula (SWAP) block in Azerbaijan's Caspian Sea waters next year.

The UK supermajor had earlier planned to drill the first well on the block at the beginning of this year but was forced to postpone drilling, first over a lack of rig availability and then because of Covid-19-related restrictions.

“Drilling activities will commence in January 2021, however, for contingency, should there be any delay for logistical or operational reasons, and based on prior experience and best estimates, a delay of up to two months may occur,” BP said.
