Malaysia Bid Round 2022, launched on Thursday, includes three exploration blocks in Sabah — two off the state’s east coast and one inboard on the west coast — and a technical study area encompassing blocks ND8, ND9 and ND10.

The Sabah basin hosts producing fields such as Kikeh and Gumusut-Kakap, plus Limbayong, which Petronas plans to develop. Petronas’ Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM) division believes the basin holds a further 6.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent that is yet to be found.
