BHP has hit hydrocarbons with the first of two Calypso gas appraisal wells in ultra deep water off Trinidad and Tobago.

The Australian operator said the Bongos-3 well spudded on 27 July 2021 in 2114 metres of water depth in Block TTDAA 14.

The well hit an unspecified hydrocarbon column, and a sidetrack is currently being drilled to complete the appraisal.

The second appraisal well - Bongos-4 - spudded on 6 August 2021 and is currently suspended, with operations due to recommence following the completion of the Bongos-3 sidetrack.
