Canadian operator CGX Energy has relinquished two exploration blocks in Guyana to focus wildcatting activities solely on the prospective Corentyne licence.
Earlier this year CGX made a promising shallow-water discovery at Corentyne with drilling of the Kawa-1 well.
Kawa-1 encountered hydrocarbons in multiple zones totalling a net pay of 69 metres across Maastrichtian, Campanian, Santonian and Coniacian-aged sandstone intervals.
CGX and project partner Frontera Energy intend to spud a second well at Corentyne in the third quarter.
