UK supermajor BP has completed the abandonment of the unsuccessful Ironbark-1 exploration well, off the coast of Western Australia.
Joint venture partner New Zealand Oil & Gas (NZOG) confirmed Wednesday the semi-submersible Ocean Apex had completed the plugging and abandonment of the Ironbark-1 well and had departed from the well location earlier this week.
There had been high hopes for the offshore wildcat in the WA-359-P permit, which, prior to drilling, had been estimated to hold up 15 trillion cubic feet of gas, but failed to find any significant hydrocarbon shows while drilling.
