Australian duo Comet Ridge and Vintage Energy have confirmed the presence of gas in the Albany-2 well in Queensland’s onshore Galilee basin.

Comet confirmed Tuesday that downhole wireline logs indicated good reservoir quality and the presence of gas in several of the sandstone sections of the target reservoir.

It added logging operations over the past week had taken pressure measurements before being interrupted by the tool getting stuck in the hole.

It is now carrying out fishing operations to retrieve the tool, after which cement casing will be run in preparation for further evaluation activities planned in the fourth quarter of the year, including production testing.
