US supermajor ExxonMobil has started a fresh exploration programme in the Stabroek block offshore Guyana, as it searches for hydrocarbon deposits in deeper horizons than recent conventional finds in the area.
The company last week began drilling the Lancetfish-1 wildcat using the Noble drillship Noble Don Taylor, according to the latest update from Guyana’s Maritime Administration Department.
Lancetfish-1 is situated about 193 kilometres from the Guyanese coast and a few kilometres north of where the Liza Destiny floating production, storage and offloading vessel is operating in the giant Liza field.
