ExxonMobil has started a new exploration campaign in the Stabroek block offshore Guyana, the ninth wildcat this year so far in an area where the US supermajor has already discovered nearly 11 billion barrels of oil equivalent in recoverable resources.

The company began last week drilling of the Sailfin-1 well with the Stena Drilling drillship Stena Carron, according to updated information from Guyana’s Maritime Administration Department.

The drilling operation, which is taking place about 214 kilometres from the Guyanese coast, is expected to conclude in late November.
