The drillship Maersk Voyager has arrived at a well location offshore Angola where it will drill a record-breaking wildcat on an 800 million-barrel oil prospect for TotalEnergies.

Located in Block 48, the French supermajor's Ondjaba-1 probe will set a new record for the deepest water depth in which a well has ever been drilled — at 3628 metres.

This exploration well will surpass the current record, also held by TotalEnergies, which was the Raya-1 probe, drilled offshore Uruguay in 2016 in a water depth of 3411 metres, but with a disappointing outcome.
