Australia-based independent Karoon Energy is moving ahead with plans to drill a second well at its Neon shallow-water field in the Santos basin offshore Brazil, following encouraging results from the first probe.
Karoon started drilling the Neon-1 control well on 23 January with the Noble Corporation semi-submersible rig Noble Developer in 343 metres of water, and last week the programme reached a final measured depth of 2382 metres.
Neon-1 was drilled into the down-dip southern flank of the maiden Echidna-1 discovery to reduce the range of uncertainty on the oil-water contact in an effort to better understand the range of potentially recoverable volumes and assist in delineating pathways for future production wells.
