Kazakh authorities are to re-auction two oil and gas blocks that were awarded in the country's first online auction late last year to a little-known entity that failed to make the required payment in time.

Kazakh independent news outlet Orda quoted unnamed governmental officials as saying that authorities have decided to auction the two blocks — Zaburunye and Sarayshyk in the Atyrau region — that had originally been awarded to Petro Qazaq.

Petro Qazaq’s winning bid for the blocks ended at $141 million, significantly above winning bids for other tracts offered in the same auction in December.
