Middle East drilling contractor Kuwait Drilling Company (KDC) has concluded a deal with Chinese rig builder Honghua Group to supply “several” land rigs.

Honghua said the deal is worth 435 million yuan ($60 million) and involves rigs that incorporate direct top drives, five-cylinder slush pumps and iron roughnecks.

The 3000 horsepower rigs, with the capacity to drill ultra-deep wells, will be deployed by KDC in the Middle East to drill wells to depths of up to 9000 metres.

Honghua, which is the subsidiary of China’s power turbine manufacturer Dongfang Electric, started selling land rigs to KDC in 2007.
