Namcor, Namibia's state-owned oil company, has confirmed that Shell has hit light oil with its closely watched deepwater Graff-1 wildcat, as reported exclusively by Upstream on 10 January.

Namcor said that, together with its partners, operator Shell and Qatar Energy, the Graff-1 exploration well made a discovery of light oil in both its primary and secondary targets.

The well has proved a working petroleum system for light oil in the Orange basin, offshore Namibia, 270 kilometres from the town of Oranjemund.
