Indonesia’s national oil company Pertamina has made a significant gas condensate discovery with potential for fast-track development as a result of the Manpatu wildcat, drilled offshore East Kalimantan province.

Local subsidiary Pertamina Hulu Mahakam delivered with the Manpatu-1X well, located off the coast of the oil town of Balikpapan.

“Drilling started on 20 October, using the [jack-up] rig Hakuryu-14, [reaching] a depth of 3776.4 metres on 9 December and succeeded in finding oil and gas hydrocarbon layers with a total net pay thickness of 207 metres in the Sepinggan Delta sequence and Sepinggan intervals,” Pertamina official Bayu Giraiansyah said.
