Brazilian oil giant Petrobras and Colombia’s Ecopetrol have started a new exploration campaign in the Colombian Caribbean in search of natural gas deposits.

The duo spudded this week the Uchuva-1 prospect in the Tayrona block in 837 metres of water with the Transocean semi-submersible rig Development Driller III.

According to Ecopetrol, the well is located approximately 80 kilometres from the Chuchupa gas field.

Petrobras has drilled three wells in the Tayrona block since entering the licence in 2004.
