Brazilian oil giant Petrobras has started a new pre-salt campaign in the prolific Campos basin, this time targeting hydrocarbons at the large Alto de Cabo Frio Central area.

The pioneering well was drilled late last week in 1832 metres of water by the Constellation Oil Services drillship Brava Star.

Petrobras will search for oil deposits in the Barra Velha formation to a final depth of 4575 metres, according to data made available by the Brazilian National Petroleum Agency.
