The Australian government has commenced a public consultation process for its upcoming 2020 offshore petroleum acreage release round.

Australian Resources Minister Keith Pitt confirmed Tuesday that 49 areas had been nominated by the oil and gas industry which will now be open for public consultation.

The consultation process will allow stakeholders to comment on the proposed exploration areas and highlight if they may be affected by exploration activities.

The consultation period will remain open until 29 June, with the public able to make their submissions via the government’s online consultation hub.
