The Australian state of Queensland has opened up more than 6700 square kilometres of land for gas exploration.

The state government has released 12 prospective parcels of land for tender in the Bowen and Surat basins, between Blackwater and Goondiwindi.

The acreage is split into five regional areas across central and southern Queensland, including 2501 square kilometres near Rolleston, 2642 square kilometres between Blackwater and Banana, 882 square kilometres south of Theodore, 703 square kilometres south of Moonie and 18 square kilometres south-west of Wandoan.
