Australian independent Roc Oil has spudded its latest wildcat on its Beibu Gulf acreage offshore China, and the well offers fast-track exploitation potential if successful.

Following completion of the first phase of the Weizhou 12-8E (WZ12-8E) development drilling campaign, the WZ12-8E A8 (A8) exploration well was spudded on 6 July by the rig Strike.

The A8 well is being drilled from the WZ12-8E production platform and is targeting stacked Tertiary reservoirs and a deeper fractured basement play, noted partner compatriot Horizon Oil.
