European supermajor Shell and Brazilian oil giant Petrobras are gearing up to drill a pair of appraisal wells offshore Colombia in separate attempts to better determine the size and quality of already-discovered natural gas resources.

According to Colombia’s Energy Ministry, Shell and state-controlled company Ecopetrol are finalising preparations to spud the Gorgon-2 well in the deep waters of the Sinu basin.

“In the coming weeks, Shell and Ecopetrol will advance with the drilling of the well,” the ministry said without providing additional details.
