Shell has commenced a fresh exploration programme in Brazilian waters, targeting hydrocarbons in the eastern Campos basin, where oil giant Petrobras recently unlocked vast amounts of natural gas.

Shell, headed in Brazil by Andre Araujo, spudded the Bob-1 wildcat on Block C-M-791 on 22 January using the Seadrill drillship West Tellus.

The campaign, in the ultra-deepwater portion of the Campos, in 2917 metres of water, will search for pre-salt deposits to a final depth of 6325 metres.
