UK supermajor Shell has received the nod to spud a third well in Mexican waters next year.

Mexican hydrocarbons regulator CNH cleared Shell to drill the Itzcali-1SON stratigraphic well in Block 6 in the Perdido fold belt.

The new approval was given just weeks after the CNH sanctioned separate plans submitted by Shell to spud the Jokol-1EXP wildcat in Block 28 in the Salina basin and the Luwa-1EXP exploration well in Block 4 in Perdido.

The 69-day programme at Itzcali-1SON is expected to begin in April with the Maersk Drilling drillship Maersk Voyager, which now is part of the Noble Corporation fleet following the completion of the merger between the two companies.
