Thailand’s Department of Mineral Fuels (DMF) is evaluating applications for the country’s 24th licensing round for which the bid submission deadline was Friday.

On offer are three offshore exploration blocks — G1/65, G2/65 and G3/65 — in the Gulf of Thailand.

One player known to have bid is US supermajor Chevron, which has producing offshore assets in Thailand and is also considering development of the Ubon discovery there.

A spokesperson for Chevron confirmed to Upstream that the company had submitted a bid for Block G2/65, adding that the proposal “showcases its deep knowledge” of the Gulf of Thailand, drawing on its six decades of experience in the country… “and the significant opportunity to utilise existing Chevron-operated facilities in other blocks in the Gulf of Thailand”.
