Timor-Leste's petroleum regulator has confirmed a long-awaited licensing round will be launched on 3 October by the country's prime minister.

Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak will announce the "Open Door Round" during a special session at the Timor-Leste Oil and Gas Summit in Dili on 3 October 2019, according to the regulator - the Autoridade Nacional do Petroleo e Minerais (ANPM).

The acreage on offer will include 18 blocks, with more details to be released on the day.

Also in attendance at the launch will be Xanana Gusmao - the government's special representative for petroleum - and Dino da Silva, the president of the ANPM.

Information will be released on the available blocks, improved fiscal terms, round timings and conditions of the first onshore and second offshore acreage offerings, added the ANPM.

The summit run by IN-VR Oil & Gas is being held on 3 and 4 October in Dili.

The summit comes hot on the heels of the ratification of the new maritime boundary between Timor-Leste and Australia that puts certain fields including Bayu-Undan within Timor-Lests’s jurisdiction.

IN-VR Oil & Gas said previously the summit will be an ideal opportunity for oil and gas companies (exploration and production), consultants, seismic, drilling and other service companies to have in-depth discussions and one-to-one private meetings with officials from Timor-Leste.
