Mexican state-owned energy company Pemex and Germany’s Wintershall Dea are preparing to carry out new exploration drilling in Mexico.

The country’s upstream regulator, the National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH) has approved five shallow-water drilling campaigns, perhaps the most high-profile one of which was proposed by Wintershall.

The regulator cleared Wintershall to spud the Kan-1EXP well in Block 30, a few kilometres to the north of the Eni-operated Amoca-Mizton-Tecoalli field, in the Sureste basin.

Drilling of Kan-1EXP will take place in 50 metres of water with the Borr Drilling’s jack-up rig Borr Ran.
