A host government agreement (HGA) covering the Tanzanian stretch of the $4 billion, 1445-kilometre East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) was signed on Thursday at an official ceremony in Dar es Salaam.

The ceremony, coming five weeks after an HGA for the Ugandan section of EACOP was signed in Entebbe, marks the official launch of the huge infrastructure project, which is due on stream in 2025.

The signing ceremony took place at State House in Dar es Salaam on Thursday morning, witnessed by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan and her Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni.
