Malaysia’s national upstream company Petronas Carigali is forging ahead with its Kasawari carbon capture and storage project offshore Malaysia.

As Upstream went to press, the operator was set to begin drilling works and soil sampling at the Kasawari gas field location, specifically at the locations of the proposed Kasawari carbon dioxide sequestration platform and the M1 platform.

Petronas has chosen the M1 field as its target depleted reservoir to store the captured CO2. The CCS project is expected to reduce CO2 volumes emitted via flaring by a total of 76 million tonnes over the expected field life, with an annual average saving of 3.7
