Namibia wants TotalEnergies and Shell to fast-track their huge Venus and Graff oil discoveries to first production, with sources suggesting at least three floating production, storage and offloading vessels could be needed.

Last month, the French supermajor said its Venus-1 wildcat had hit oil and gas, confirming an earlier Upstream report and thrusting the Orange basin further into the limelight after Shell’s earlier Graff-1 oil discovery just to the east.

Upstream understands Venus holds at least 3 billion barrels of recoverable oil — out of an estimated 9 billion barrels of in-place resources — while Graff’s resources are thought to be more modest at about 400 million barrels.
