Major oilfield services contractors are on tenterhooks as Chevron pores over bids for major contracts for its ultra-deepwater Jansz-Io gas compression project in Australia.

The project is significant as it will be an Australian first in terms of subsea compression, which will be used to enhance recovery of the Jansz-Io field and maintain long-term gas supply into Chevron’s huge Gorgon liquefied natural gas facility.

Two major contracts are garnering most attention from contractors, one for the large offshore controls platform, and the other for the transportation and installation of the platform and the significant subsea compression system.
