Chinese offshore operator CNOOC Ltd is applying China’s first home-grown deep-water subsea production technology to develop hydrocarbon resources in the South China Sea.

The company on Wednesday installed China’s first home-fabricated deep-water subsea tree, which is deployed for the redevelopment of the Dongfang 1-1 gas field in the Yinggehai basin.

The new subsea production system (SPS), which is tied back to the existing Ledong drilling platform, will enable Dongfang 1-1 to increase gas throughput by 200 million cubic metres per annum.
