Chinese operator CNOOC Ltd has completed installation of a key component of its Lingshui 17-2 project, which is China's first deep-water gas field development.

The first steel catenary riser (SCR) installation to connect the subsea pipeline to the production platform has been completed at the field in the South China Sea’s Qiongdongnan basin, a person with direct knowledge of the project told Upstream.

China's Offshore Oil Engineering Company (COOEC) is largely handling the deep-water development and subcontracted French company Serimax for the welding of the first SCR, given the technical challenge due to the fatigue sensitivity of the SCR and the water depth of 1450 metres.
