ExxonMobil will soon approach the oilfield services market regarding opportunities for the Phase 1B expansion of the Kipper gas field in Bass Strait offshore south-east Australia.

The expansion will entail the drilling of new production wells, new subsea infrastructure and a new gas compression module, and carries an estimated capital cost of at least US$1 billion, according to portfolio guidance by joint venture partner BHP.

“Kipper expansion (additional Phase 1B well and compression) for acceleration and incremental resource capture from the Kipper field,” BHP said in a recent petroleum portfolio update.
