At least five leading engineering, procurement and construction contractors or consortia are battling it out for a key offshore contract from Thailand's national upstream oil company PTTEP for phase 1D of its Zawtika gas project off Myanmar.

At least three people familiar with the tender process told Upstream that bids for the Zawtika 1D development were recently submitted to PTTEP.

Those believed to have submitted bids include a consortium of Malaysia’s Sapura Energy with Vietnam’s PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation; another grouping of Indonesian contractor Gunanusa Utama Fabricators and Singapore-based Ocentra Offshore — the latter a partnership of Swiber and Hilong; a consortium of Thailand’s Cuel with China's Offshore Oil Engineering Company; Saipem of Italy; and Indian engineering and construction giant Larsen & Toubro.
